What in life, is beautiful to you? Where do you find inspiration?
Beauty to me is the lines in the palm of your hand, the pedals on flowers, the view when looking down on an airplane. These things are beautiful to me. I do many things and with each one I find inspiration within myself. When I write poetry I try to explain to people that I do not think about a topic than write. I simply put the pen to the paper and the magic flows from the pen. It’s almost as if the words were already there and I just made them visible to everyone else. A lot of the things that I write believe it or not I never knew I could. When it comes to everything else I just follow my instincts, they have gotten me so far and never once have let me down. My mother has always told me if it feels right go with it & if it doesn’t don’t do it.
What impact are you wanting to leave on the world?
To impact the world would be a great accomplishment that I hope one day I will do. As for today I am looking towards helping young women that deal with many different obstacles in life. Whether it may be a domestic violence, insecurities within themselves, or any life situation in general. I have always been the person that people confide in. I’ve heard it all and my advice really does work in these people’s lives. I believe that to become something great you must conquer the small things and they add up to that great big thing we all call success. I have already started to make an impact on young women and men. In my spare time I go to high schools and give a lecture on life after high school. Realistically speaking when your 14-16 you honestly aren’t thinking about college or your career. I have realized how important it is to think about these things and I let these kids understand that you only have one life and you should value the opportunities that you are given. I wish everyday of my life that I could go back to high school but I cant so if I can prevent someone else from making the same mistakes I’ve made why wouldn’t I? There was one girl that was very disrespectful in class towards teachers and her fellow classmates. The teachers would tell me “she is never going to make it out of here” I looked at her as a young African American woman that should not fail because she doesn’t have support at home. No one believed in her but I did, no one spoke to her but I did. She was just negative outlook on life in general with no support from her mother or family she believed that she would be another nobody with any trace of accomplishment. I pulled her to the side many times and had a one on one with her, I even called her out in front of the other students. I had to make her understand that no matter what negative comments anyone says about you there is only two things you can do about it. Prove them right or prove them wrong and I left the rest up to her. I am so proud to say that this same young lady changed her whole world around. She changed her attitude, she was full of life when I spoke to her the next time she was positive and she gave me great news. She told me that she was graduating high school. This means she would be the first in her family to attend college but the greater thing about this story is that she said, “I could have never done any of this without you, you changed me, you changed my life”. This is one of many accomplishments for me just imagine what else I am capable of… In time we will see what impact I leave on the world.
Yesterday Dec. 26th 2010 Teena Marie Born Marie Christine Brockert, A soul legend passed away at 54 years old. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but she did pass away in her sleep. Teena marie rose to prominence in the late 70s and 80s, stricking a musical and personal partnership with funk legend rick james. She released 13 studio albums, six went platinum on the us R&B charts. Two of her albums went platinum, and the rest gold. I always say the music that we grew up on we will never get back. It was just a different sound a different feeling from old to new music. Teena was signed to cash money at one point under the original classical artist. She was the only artist under that label, they actually made that label just for her. She has set the way for many artist and left us with music that we can still sing along with and dance to. Here are some videos in honor of Teena Marie. May you rest in peace.
What does it mean to you to allow another person to fully love you?
WOW! Okay in order for me to allow someone to fully love me first and foremost we must be on the same page. I have major TRUST issues when it comes to men. We as a couple would have to come to an understanding that we will not hold things back from one another and lying is not necessary. So I guess when you say fully that would mean I’m holding a piece of me back. This is true, Only because of what I have been through in the past. Can you blame me? Who would want to relive that over and over again? When I do allow someone to fully love me that would mean that I am giving 100% and I expect the same from them.
As a young girl love seemed to seep through the cracks in my life. I spend years looking for it, just when I thought I found it it was almost like a blemish that slowly faded. In order to love someone you must love yourself first right? This is what I’ve been told but as a VIRGO I can find so many imperfections about myself that would stop me from loving myself unconditionally. I love my life, I love my friends & family, I love my mind but when it comes to ME I often saw BLANK. I decided that I have to stop hating myself for the things I myself can not control & from that point on I started to love me. I love my CORE The inside is what counts. I bend over backwards for people who would never do so for me, I chose not to look at it like that good things happen to good people so I’m patiently waiting for my love.
